Menu Highlights

The menu at Tacos Gardenias is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of Mexico. From looking at the menu, seriously, the variety of tacos on offer was overwhelming. [view menu ]

Gardenias sets itself apart with its extensive menu. From exotic Mexican offerings like taco de nopal (cactus taco) and fried pork rind to more familiar options such as shredded chicken, beef, fried fish, shrimp, and cochinita pibil (marinated pork), there is something for everyone. The special Shrimp Molcajete, prepared with salsa, onion, and cheese, is a must-try, along with ceviche, seafood soup, tortilla soup, fish salad, and shrimp cocktail.

So I began.

We started with the grilled shrimp tacos, a house specialty that has garnered rave reviews for its freshness and flavor. Each bite was a delightful medley of succulent shrimp, perfectly grilled and complemented by a squeeze of lime and a warm, homemade tortilla.

Equally impressive were the fish tacos. Lightly battered and fried to a golden brown, the fish was moist and flaky inside. The batter, reminiscent of a delicate tempura, added a subtle crunch without overpowering the delicate flavors of the fish. The tacos are served “naked,” allowing diners to customize their toppings from a colorful array of condiments, including shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, guacamole, and a variety of salsas.

Beyond Tacos: Must-Try Dishes

While tacos are the star of the show, the menu at Tacos Gardenias offers an array of other delectable options. The shrimp molcajete, a rich stew of shrimp, peppers, cheese, and onions served in a traditional Mexican mortar and pestle, is a must-try. The ceviche and seafood soup are also highly recommended, providing a refreshing and flavorful complement to the tacos.

Tacos Gardenias Cabo

The Quesabirria (beef) tacos were probably one of the best I’ve ever eaten in all of Mexico (pictured above). One of the standout items I tried was the pulpo (octopus) taco. Cooked to perfection, the pulpo was tender and juicy, offering a unique and exotic twist to the traditional taco lineup. Pair it with a maracuja (passion fruit) smoothie, it’s refreshing and satisfying.

Horchata Gasrdenias CaboBut wait there’s more.

One word: Horchata.

Horchata is a traditional drink that varies in ingredients and preparation depending on the country of origin. Generally, it is a sweet, creamy beverage made from rice, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Horchata is typically made by soaking rice in water, blending it with milk, and flavoring it with vanilla and cinnamon. The mixture is then strained to achieve a smooth consistency, and sugar is added to sweeten the drink.  Gardenia’s has the best you’ll find in Cabo.

Friendly Service

The service at Tacos Gardenias was exemplary. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to accommodate any requests. Whether you’re a local or a tourist, you’ll find the team at Gardenias ready to make your dining experience memorable. The restaurant prides itself on cleanliness, with spotless bathrooms and a well-maintained dining area, a pleasant surprise for an open-air establishment.

Budget-Friendly and Convenience

For a restaurant situated in a prime tourist location, Tacos Gardenias offers remarkably fair prices. Accepting both USD and MXN, it’s convenient for international travelers. The establishment opens early at 8 a.m., making it a great spot for breakfast tacos, proving that it’s never too early. In fact, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any taco stand open for breakfast in Cabo.
